Dealing with Breakage, Damage and Hair Loss

Dealing with Breakage

“Your Hair is the Crown that you never take off” – It’s the one quote that we all relate to. And that’s why we go to any lengths to make sure that our crowning glory, i.e. our hair, is healthy, lustrous and beautiful. However often, it also becomes our biggest reason for worry!

There’s nothing more depressing than running your fingers through your hair and finding a chunk of broken strands in your hand. Or the sight of the bunch of fallen hair on your pillow, your towel, your hair brush or in the shower drain.

Hair fall can be caused due to a lot of reasons – external and internal. Most of the time what we experience as hair fall, is actually hair breakage. Here are a few of the most common reasons for hair breakage and simple ways on how you can avoid it.

  1. Excessive use of chemical styling products:

Chemical based products and treatments such as frequent hair colour, permanent straightening, etc. tend to over-dry and break the bonds in your hair strands, making them weak and brittle.

Hence, avoiding using chemical styling products and instead using natural and herbal products that maintain the PH balance of your hair strands can help keep the damage at bay. Even if you want to opt for a chemical treatment like hair colour, complement it by providing your hair with the right amount of natural conditioning and nutrition to counter the harsh effects of the chemical.

You can opt for regular hair spas and in-home oiling using a nourishing herbal oil. Emami Kesh King Ayurvedic Oil is a potent hair health recipe designed for optimal hair fall control, promoting hair growth and solving other hair problems without any side effects. It effectively delivers nutrients into the deepest layer of scalp & hair with the help of the revolutionary Deep Root Comb that comes with the hair oil and effectively reduces hair fall due to breakage.

When oiling, make sure you oil only the scalp and not your hair strands, and use only the amount of oil required.

Use natural and herbal shampoos and always use a conditioner. Try the Kesh King Scalp and Hair Medicine Anti-Hair fall Shampoo and Ayurvedic anti-hair fall Conditioner, which are both filled with the goodness of Aloe and 21 Ayurvedic Herbs. In combination they help to reduce hair fall, and make hair silky, shiny and smooth.

The Emami Kesh King anti hair fall shampoo reduces up to 80% hair fall due to hair breakage, and nourishes your scalp.

The Emami Kesh King Anti-hair fall Conditioner helps to manage frizz, reduces hair fall and gives a healthy nourished scalp.

2) Excessive Brushing

Contrary to what people believe, brushing or combing your hair too much is actually not good for your hair. Especially when you brush dry or knotted hair, they tend to break easily and create frizziness too.

Always try to brush your hair when you have a conditioner on, or when you have hair oil in your hair. Combing your hair when there is oil also helps push the oil deeper into the scalp. The Deep Root Comb that comes with the Emami Kesh King Ayurvedic Medicinal Oil helps in doing exactly that.

3) Towel Drying

Some people tend to use a thick towel to rub their hair dry.

It’s actually criminal to rub your hair because that causes a lot of breakage and knots your hair further.

Always just gently press your hair to a microfiber towel to dry it, wrap your hair in the towel to let the towel soak the water in, or simply let your hair air dry to avoid hair breakage and frizz. You may also use a soft cotton t-shirt in case you do not have access to a microfiber towel.

4) Excessive Heat

Constant use of hair irons, curling tongs and even blow drying at high temperatures can cause trauma to your hair. Heat weakens your hair shaft causing it to lose its luster and making it brittle, thereby causing breakage.

The best thing to do is to accept your natural hair and use less heat treatments, only when necessary for styling instead of on an everyday basis.

Exposure to harsh sun also has the same effect on hair as the blow dryer. Exposure to direct UV radiations ruins the colour of the hair and its molecular structure, making it unable to hold its moisture, leaving the hair dry, stripped off its colour and damaged.

Try to use a scarf or a hat when stepping out in the sun to avoid direct exposure and hair damage.

Also, avoid washing your hair with very hot water. Always use cold or lukewarm water to wash your hair to keep it from drying out and breaking.

5) Improper Diet

Lack of proper nutrition and deficiencies can be one of the biggest reasons for hair loss. For healthy hair, you need a proper quantity of nutrients like protein, biotin, omega 3 fatty acids, Zinc, iron and Vitamin D.

Biotin deficiencies especially, can lead to hair thinning and hair loss.

Some of the best hair foods include eggs, nuts (walnuts etc.) and seeds (flax seeds, Chia Seeds) and vegetables like broccoli, spinach and other dark leafy vegetables. Whole grains provide biotin along with zinc and B vitamins which are all essential for your hair health.

You may also try the Kesh King Ayurvedic Hair Capsules which are a combination of ayurvedic herbs like bhringraj, shankhpushpi, ashwagandha, amla etc. which help in hair follicles activity, reduce hair fall and fight against premature graying.

6) Tight hairstyles

I’m sure we have all seen the number of broken hair strands stuck to our elastic hair-ties or scrunchies when we tie our hair too tight. In addition to the breakage caused on the air strands while twisting and pulling out the rubber bands, you may also have noticed the pressure on the hairline when we wear a tight ponytail or a bun for too long. This kind of tight pulling of the hair for long periods of time can cause the hair to break away from the root causing hair fall.

Use satin scrunchies rather than woolen or elastic hair-ties. Don’t pull open and re-tie your hair too often to minimize breakage. It is best to try and tie your hair loose on regular days and opt for the tighter hairstyles only occasionally and that too, not for very long durations.

7) Tension & Stress

Extreme stress or shock can cause the hair roots to reach the resting-stage of their growth cycle much before their time, which means they become loose from the scalp. This can lead to premature, stress related hair loss.

Yoga, meditation, relaxing head massages with Kesh King Ayurvedic Oil and a good 7hrs of daily sleep can immensely help your hair health and keep you relaxed and stress free.

8) Climatic Changes

Often, we blame the weather for our hair loss? Is it really true?!

Well yes!

During summer, the excessively hot climate results in hair loss. This is because our hair tends to remain in the resting, or telogen phase, longer than normal, making it more likely to fall out at a faster rate due to the heat.

On the other hand, during winter, our hair tends to fall because we try to wear hats, caps and other protective head-gear which is tight fitted. This pulls on your hair stands, putting pressure on the hair follicles making them weak and causing them to fall out.

To counter this, always make sure you cover your scalp when going out. Instead of using tight fitted caps, use satin scarves and large hats to protect your hair from the harsh weather conditions.

For Chronic hair problems, regular use of Kesh King Scalp and Hair Medicine Anti-Hair fall Shampoo and conditioner, along with Kesh King Ayurvedic Medicinal Oil & Capsules is advised for at least thrice a week for 3 months.

Your hair is precious. Take care of it and provide it with the best nutrition.

Happy Hair days to you!
